Dermatology and allergology

A dermatologist (skin disease specialist) treats diseases of the skin, mucous membranes, hair, and nails. The most common conditions include atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, skin cancer, and various infections.

Allergology is often combined with dermatology, in which case the same specialist also evaluates allergies: skin prick tests, patch testing, and desensitization treatment for pollen allergy. The dermatologist uses a dermatoscope to examine skin moles.

Diagnosing skin symptoms requires visual examination, so an in-person appointment is usually necessary. Private dermatologists can usually be seen more quickly than in the public sector.
