Acne and skin redness (rosacea)
Acne is an inflammatory disease of the skin’s sebaceous glands and hair follicles, appearing as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and nodules. It is very common in young people, but it can also persist or start in adulthood. Untreated acne can leave scars. Rosacea is a different condition that causes facial redness, visible blood vessels, and pimples, especially in the cheekbone area.
Acne is treated with topical therapies such as retinoids and antibiotics, and severe acne responds to isotretinoin, which is prescribed by a dermatologist. Rosacea is treated with topical antibiotic and metronidazole gels and by avoiding triggering factors such as sunlight, alcohol, and hot drinks. The dermatologist chooses the most suitable treatment based on the type and severity of the condition.
