Hearing difficulties and hearing loss

Hearing loss is very common and affects about 700,000 people in Finland. It can be caused by aging (presbyacusis), long-term exposure to noise, ear infections, earwax buildup, or diseases of the inner ear. Hearing loss can impair communication, social relationships, and increase the risk of memory disorders.

A hearing test, or audiogram, is the first step in determining the diagnosis. An ENT doctor or audiologist evaluates the findings and recommends treatment: ear cleaning, medication, hearing aids, or surgical options such as a cochlear implant in severe cases. A hearing aid significantly improves quality of life, and modern devices are small and effective.
