Prostate problems
Prostate problems are very common in men over 50. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) causes a weak urine stream, frequent urination, nighttime trips to the bathroom, and a feeling that the bladder does not empty properly. Prostatitis can cause pain and urinary difficulties in men of all ages.
A urologist examines the prostate with a digital rectal examination and measures the PSA level in cancer screening. BPH is first treated with medication, and if necessary, with surgical procedures. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in Finland, so regular PSA monitoring is recommended for men over 50 or earlier in high-risk cases.
