Neurology

Neurology is a medical specialty that treats diseases of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nervous system, and muscles. The most common neurological conditions include migraine, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and various neuropathies.

You should see a neurologist when your symptoms suggest a disorder of the nervous system: numbness, weakness in the limbs, visual disturbances, balance and coordination problems, or unexplained headaches. To support a diagnosis, a neurologist uses imaging, EEG studies, and other specialized examinations.

Many neurological diseases can be effectively treated with medication or rehabilitation programs, provided the diagnosis is made early. Private neurologists can usually be seen more quickly than in the public sector.
