ADHD and attention disorders
ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is a neurobiological developmental disorder characterised by difficulties in regulating attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. ADHD is often diagnosed in childhood, but in many people it remains unrecognised until adulthood. In adults, symptoms often emphasise attention problems, difficulty managing everyday life and emotional outbursts.
The diagnosis is made through a comprehensive assessment by a psychiatrist or neuropsychologist, including symptom questionnaires, neuropsychological tests and the history of symptoms. Treatment often combines medication and psychosocial support measures such as an ADHD coach, psychoeducation and, if needed, psychotherapy. Timely diagnosis and support significantly improve functioning.
