Eating disorders

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and other forms of disordered eating. They deeply affect both physical health and mental well-being. Eating disorders are characterized by a distorted body image, a compulsive relationship with food, restrictive eating, or cycles of bingeing and purging. They can cause serious physical complications.

Treatment is always multidisciplinary: a psychiatrist or psychologist treats the mental health aspects, and a dietitian helps normalize eating behavior. A doctor monitors physical health, especially in anorexia, including the heart and bone health. Early intervention is crucial, as eating disorders can become chronic and are among the most life-threatening psychiatric disorders.
