Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition associated with widespread muscle and soft tissue pain, fatigue, insomnia and cognitive difficulties (the so-called fibrofog). It is more common in women and is often linked to depression, anxiety or previous trauma. Fibromyalgia cannot be confirmed with laboratory tests, so the diagnosis is based on symptoms.
Treatment is multifaceted: aerobic exercise is the single most effective evidence-based treatment. Among pain medications, pregabalin and duloxetine may help. Psychological support, cognitive behavioral therapy and psychophysical physiotherapy support pain management. Group rehabilitation and peer support can be useful resources.
