Menopause
Menopause starts when the ovaries stop producing eggs and estrogen levels drop significantly. Hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, mood changes, vaginal dryness, and changes in sexual desire are common symptoms. Menopause is experienced very individually – some women have hardly any symptoms at all.
A gynecologist or general practitioner assesses whether hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is suitable. Modern, low-dose hormone treatments relieve symptoms effectively, and their risk profile is known to be more favorable than previously believed. Non-hormonal options such as phytotherapy, lifestyle changes, and psychological support can also help. Menopause is also a good time to pay attention to bone health to help prevent osteoporosis.
